I. Product Overview

The basket is used together with the Aggregate Soundness Test Apparatus to simulate the deterioration of aggregates caused by repeated crystallization of sodium sulfate or magnesium sulfate. By exposing aggregate samples to cycles of solution immersion and oven drying, the test determines the resistance of aggregates to disintegration, cracking, and loss of mass caused by crystallization pressure.

II. Available Specifications

The Triangular Wire Basket for Coarse and Fine Aggregates is available in various specifications, including basket diameters of 70 mm, 100 mm, and 150 mm, with mesh openings ranging from 0.15 mm to 2.36 mm. These baskets are primarily used for aggregate soundness testing, helping evaluate the durability of aggregates by ensuring they maintain their strength and structural stability after repeated immersion and drying cycles.

III. Test Procedure

1. Sample Preparation

Separate aggregate samples according to the required particle size and place each sample into the appropriate triangular wire basket.

The sample volume should not exceed approximately five times the basket capacity to ensure uniform exposure to the testing solution.

2. Solution Immersion

Immerse the basket completely in saturated sodium sulfate or magnesium sulfate solution maintained at 20–25°C. Keep the sample immersed for approximately 20 hours.

3. Oven Drying

Remove the basket from the solution and place it in a drying oven at 105 ± 5°C. Dry the specimen for approximately 4 hours.

4. Repeated Cycles

Repeat the immersion and drying procedure according to the applicable testing standard.

5. Washing and Final Drying

Wash the specimen thoroughly with clean water at 25–30°C to remove residual salts. Dry the sample again at 105 ± 5°C until constant mass is achieved.

6. Result Evaluation

Determine the percentage of mass loss after testing to evaluate the soundness and weathering resistance of the aggregate.
