Low-Temperature Overflow Water Bath for Natural Stone Testing

2026-09-08

The TD705-1 Low-Temperature Overflow Water Bath provides a stable and controlled water environment for natural stone water absorption and bulk density testing. By maintaining the water temperature at 20°C ± 2°C and providing suitable overflow conditions, it supports accurate weighing of water-saturated specimens in water. This article introduces the application background, testing procedure, key precautions, and practical use of the water bath to help ensure reliable and repeatable test results.

I. Application Background

In water absorption and bulk density tests, the mass of water-saturated specimens in water is measured to calculate the relevant parameters. The TD705-1 Low-Temperature Overflow Water Bath is specially designed to provide a stable water temperature of 20°C ± 2°C and controlled overflow conditions, ensuring that the water temperature meets the requirements of the relevant testing standards during specimen weighing.

II. Specific Application Procedure

1. Specimen Preparation:

Complete the preliminary steps of the water absorption and bulk density tests, including drying, water saturation, and wiping off surface moisture, to obtain water-saturated specimens.

2. Equipment Operation:

Place the water-saturated specimen in a metal mesh basket and immerse the basket with the specimen in the deionized or distilled water inside the TD705-1 Low-Temperature Overflow Water Bath. Maintain the water temperature at 20°C ± 2°C.

Carefully remove any air bubbles adhering to the mesh basket or specimen surface to prevent them from affecting the accuracy of the weighing results.

3. Weighing:

Measure the combined mass of the specimen and mesh basket while immersed in water, and subtract the mass of the mesh basket measured separately in water. Alternatively, use the tare or zero function of an electronic balance to directly determine the mass of the specimen in water, with a resolution of 0.01 g.

The equipment supports two weighing methods:

Traditional Balance Method: Secure the mesh basket using a support, beaker, or other suitable device, weigh the total mass, and subtract the mass of the mesh basket.

Electronic Balance Method: Suspend the mesh basket using the hook and suspension line of an electronic balance. Tare the balance with the basket immersed to the required depth, then directly read the mass of the specimen in water.

III. Key Precautions

Water Temperature Control:

Maintain the temperature of the deionized or distilled water in the tank at 20°C ± 2°C to ensure compliance with the required test conditions.

Specimen Spacing:

During immersion, keep a minimum spacing of 15 mm between water-saturated specimens to avoid mutual interference. Maintain sufficient spacing during weighing to prevent contact or collision between specimens.

Air Bubble Removal:

Thoroughly remove air bubbles from the surfaces of the mesh basket and specimens before immersion. Residual air bubbles may result in an underestimated measured mass and affect the calculated bulk density and water absorption results.

IV. Conclusion

The TD705-1 Low-Temperature Overflow Water Bath is an important auxiliary device for water absorption and bulk density testing. Its primary function is to provide a stable overflow water environment at the required temperature for weighing water-saturated specimens in water, helping ensure accurate measurements and reliable test results.
